How should I prepare myself for the glucose or insulin tolerance test?

You must arrive in a fasting state of no less than 4 hours and no more than 12 hours. Do not take alcoholic beverages. In case of pregnant women, consult with your doctor. You will have to remain in the laboratory for three to five hours.

Does my medication (e.g., for blood pressure, diabetes or antibiotics) affect the results, if I’m undergoing laboratory tests?

Your medication does not affect the results if it is prescribed by your doctor, except for those cultures for which you may not take antibiotics for seven days before the test.


If I had a test done which required the injection of a contrast medium, can I undergo laboratory tests?

If it is a blood test, you should wait 24 hours before you have it done


How should I prepare to have a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test done?

Fasting is not required, but you should remain sexually abstinent for 3 days, and should not have had a rectal examination or transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) performed before the test.


Are the urine or stool samples compromised if they are not immediately taken to the Laboratory?

If the purpose of your stool sample is to check for intestinal parasites, it should be taken to the laboratory within the next two hours. If the purpose is to check for parasite antigens, the stool sample can be kept in the refrigerator until it can be taken to the laboratory. The urine samples should be taken to the lab within the next two hours.


Should I be on a special diet if I need to take a Cholesterol and Triglycerides Test?

You should be on a fasting state of no less than twelve hours and no more than 14 hours. If you change your eating habits before you take the test, you will get results based on your modified diet and not on your regular diet. The results will be altered.


Do I need to fast In order to take a stool sample?

No, any sample taken during the day may be useful for this test.


Do I need to fast if I’m undergoing a Hematology Test?

No, a Hematology test can be performed at any time of the day.


How late in my menstrual period should I be, in order to take a pregnancy test?

For a qualitative pregnancy test you should be late for a minimum of 3 days. For a quantitative pregnancy test (b-HCG, Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) you do not need to be late in your menstrual period.
